Operating Guide
The full operating guide: Simple Timer, Show Production, modes, displays, OSC/Companion and more.
This document explains the main operating workflows in Coral Cue Pro.
Coral Cue Pro is designed as an operator-first show control system. The operator/director always decides cue movement. The software prepares, synchronizes, displays, and records the show, but it does not guess or advance cues by itself.
1. Application Start
When Coral Cue Pro opens, the Opening Wizard is displayed.
From the Opening Wizard you can open:
- Simple Timer
- Show Production
- Import Stage Book
- Existing Projects
- Display Center
- OSC / Companion Control Center
- History
Only one active production should be operated at a time. Display windows and control windows can be opened from the active production.
2. Simple Timer
Simple Timer is for a standalone speaker timer without a full cue list.
Use it when you only need:
- countdown timer
- speaker display
- start / pause / resume / reset
- load a preset duration
- add or subtract time
- send an optional speaker message
Basic workflow:
- Open Simple Timer.
- Choose or set a duration.
- Press Load.
- Press Start.
- Open the Simple Timer Display if needed.
The Simple Timer is independent from Show Production.
3. Show Production
Show Production is the main show workspace.
It is used for cue-based events with:
- LIVE cue
- READY cue
- show clock
- cue timer
- cue list / stage book
- department information
- external displays
- show history
- rehearsal workflow
4. Core Show Workflow
The official workflow is:
Select Cue
Set READY
GO
LIVE
Definitions:
- LIVE: the cue currently running.
- READY: the cue prepared by the operator/director.
- SELECTED: the cue currently highlighted for browsing or editing.
Important rules:
- Selecting a cue does not change READY.
- NEXT / PREV move selection only where applicable.
- SET READY prepares the selected cue.
- GO promotes READY to LIVE.
- After GO, the next eligible cue may be prepared as READY, but it is not executed.
- Coral Cue Pro never automatically advances LIVE.
5. Show Mode
Show Mode is for live operation.
Use Show Mode for:
- GO
- PREV / NEXT
- SET READY
- Pause / Resume
- Restart Cue
- End Session
- Reset Show
- sending messages
- monitoring LIVE / READY / timers
Show Mode should remain clean and focused. Detailed cue editing belongs in Edit or Config.
6. Edit / Config
Edit and Config modes are used for preparing and adjusting the stage book.
Typical tasks:
- edit cue title
- edit cue number
- edit timer mode
- edit planned duration
- edit notes
- edit department instructions
- enable or disable cues
- add cues before or after another cue
- duplicate cues
- delete cues when allowed
Editing a LIVE cue does not silently restart or change the running timer. Changes apply according to the selected save action.
7. Cue Timing
A cue can have one of these timer modes:
- No timer
- Count up
- Count down
Countdown cues use a planned duration.
If a cue is edited during a running show, Coral Cue Pro can store a temporary runtime override for today’s show without changing the master stage book.
8. Rehearsal Mode
Rehearsal is used to measure actual cue timings.
Rehearsal does not modify the active Show Runtime.
Basic rehearsal workflow:
Select Cue
Set READY
GO
Measure Actual
Review
Rehearsal can record:
- actual cue duration
- planned duration at the time of rehearsal
- delta between planned and actual
- notes
- review flags
- proposed timing changes
- disabled cues
Today’s Show changes are temporary runtime overrides.
Stage Book changes are permanent and require explicit review and confirmation.
9. Displays
Coral Cue Pro supports multiple display outputs.
Common outputs:
- Show Time
- Speaker Timer
- Department Display
- Operator Preview
- Admin Multiview
Display windows are read-only unless specifically designed as control windows.
Outputs should not own timers or cue state. They subscribe to the active runtime.
10. Show Time Output
Show Time is a show-oriented display.
It can show:
- large LIVE cue timer
- LIVE cue
- READY cue
- show clock
- runtime status
Use it for production or control-facing displays.
11. Speaker Timer Output
Speaker Timer is a clean timer-only display.
It should not show:
- cue workflow
- LIVE / READY
- show clock
- department instructions
It is intended for speakers, presenters, or confidence monitor usage.
12. Department Display
Department Display is for department-specific information.
Supported departments:
- Sound
- Lighting
- Video
- Stage
- Backline
- Production
Each department display must show only information assigned to that department.
Department Display can show:
- previous relevant cue
- LIVE cue
- READY cue
- department message
- department notes
- department operations
- show timer information
If there are no instructions for the selected department, the display should show a standby state.
13. Admin Multiview
Admin Multiview is used to monitor and launch outputs.
It can show:
- connected displays
- output launch controls
- Show Runtime summary
- Show Clock summary
- output links
- QR placeholders
- display status
Use Admin Multiview during setup and monitoring.
14. Display Center
Display Center provides quick access to available output screens.
Use it to open:
- Department Display
- Speaker Timer
- Show Time
- Multiview
Department displays can be opened by route/link and configured per department.
15. OSC / Companion Control Center
The OSC / Companion Control Center is used for external control.
Important: all devices involved in the connection (the computer running Coral Cue Pro, the Stream Deck / Companion device, and any other external controller) must be connected to the same local network (Wi-Fi or LAN). Without this, the connection will not work, even if the IP address and port are configured correctly.
It supports:
- OSC listening IP
- OSC listening port
- feedback IP
- feedback port
- live command monitor
- Companion command feedback
- command catalog
If commands are not working, check:
- OSC server status is Listening
- Companion is sending to the correct IP
- Companion is sending to the correct port
- the port is not already used by another app
- Last Companion Command updates when a command is received
GO should always remain GO on external control surfaces.
16. Licensing
Licensing is handled through Coral Cue Pro activation.
A license may be:
- time-limited
- monthly
- yearly
The license screen may request an email or activation ID depending on the license flow.
17. Important Operator Principles
- The operator owns cue movement.
- The system never guesses.
- Timers provide information; they do not control the show.
- GO performs one clear action.
- Outputs are read-only views unless explicitly designed otherwise.
- Automation must be opt-in.
- If uncertain, the system waits.
18. Basic Troubleshooting
If displays are not updating:
- confirm they are connected to the same active production
- refresh the display window
- confirm the local network address is correct
- check that the main production window is still running
If Companion is not working:
- confirm the OSC port in Companion matches Coral Cue Pro
- confirm the OSC server is Listening
- check Last Companion Command
- check that the port is not already in use
If text is unreadable:
- switch Light / Dark theme
- check output mode
- verify the correct display route is open
