For a large event, a second computer is a good idea. It gets a live copy of the event every second, outputs in parallel, and can take over if the main computer goes down. One license covers both computers.
Pairing
- On the main computer: General settings → Two computers → "Pairing code". An 8-character code (valid for 10 minutes) and the network address are shown.
- On the backup computer: "This computer – backup", and enter the address and the code.
- The "Computer" light in the status bar: "Main · backup connected" and "Backup · connected to main".
The backup computer needs to start without any events that have donations. The copy over the network is encrypted.
What's copied to the backup
Donations, fundraisers, settings, design, the LED screen and all the canvases, including the graphics and fonts. The fundraisers' links and the VJ link also work on both computers.
The backup computer is read-only: you can't take donations, edit or change settings on it. Its display, canvas and NDI output run in parallel, so you can keep two sources in Resolume.
When the main computer goes down
- After 5 seconds without a connection, a red bar appears on the backup: "The main computer isn't responding".
- "Take over" → confirm. The backup becomes the main computer and intake opens.
- Forms opened after pairing switch to the second computer on their own, and a donation that didn't reach either computer is sent again. A form opened before pairing, or a link opened again, needs the backup computer's address: copy the links again from the Fundraisers area on the backup computer.
When the old main computer comes back, it passes the new one any donations that only it received, with no duplicates, and becomes the backup. "Hand back" restores the original setup.
